"Just for the fun of it"

The Gold Coast District Junior Rugby League (GCDJRL) is a non-profit organisation aimed at managing and supporting local and regional Rugby League clubs on the Gold Coast. Originally formed in 1976, the GCDJRL supports 18 cluster clubs all located in the southern and northern regions of the Gold Coast. Currently, the GCDJRL has 4613 members playing in ages under 6 to under 17. A further 1500 members are registered in our senior competition. Operating in the South-East Queensland region with Brisbane and Ipswich, the GCDJRL is the fastest growing junior league in its region.

In supporting local and regional Rugby League clubs, the GCDJRL run a number of educational and development programs for the players, members and volunteers. In doing this, we not only keep children off the street but we also provide a fun and safe organised environment for our participants and the wider community. As volunteers are the back-bone of the Junior League the GCDJRL encourage volunteers to attend course's to become qualified in area's that will not only improve their understanding of our game, but also provide life skills to help outside of sport. Currently the GCDJRL operates a number of community based programmes including our annual Miss Junior Rugby League pageant night, which endeavours to include female participation in the sport. Coaching educational clinics are run half yearly focused on increasing coaching standards within our Junior League. Our annual cultural awareness programme “Crossing Cultures” focuses on bridging the gap with indigenous Australian groups. Each year a First Aid (league safe) and referee’ course is offered to volunteers and members by the GCDJRL. Over 400 members and volunteers receive higher education due to these courses. The Gold Coast Titans run yearly development programs for kids aged 13 to 17 in activities including behaviour skills, nutritional information and drug and alcohol awareness. Currently, the GCDJRL is in the process of implementing an initiative of the department of communities, the “Positive or it’s Pointless” behaviour program throughout all Gold Coast clubs. This program encourages positive behaviour in junior sports. GCDJRL also works in partnership with “Good Sports”. Good sports programs aim to reduce alcohol and other drug problems, increase the viability of sporting clubs and improve the range and quality of sport options available within the community.
